The ARC Centre of Excellence in Plant Cell Walls is undertaking research designed to advance the understanding of plant cell wall biology and will define the regulatory mechanisms that control molecular, enzymic and cellular processes involved in the synthesis, deposition, remodelling and depolymerisation of cell wall polysaccharides. Techniques include biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, cell biology, physicochemistry, microscopy, functional genomics (includes glycomics, proteomics and metabolomics) and bioinformatics.

Metabolomics Australia

Metabolomics and Proteomics are fields of research used in SYSTEMS BIOLOGY to study the underlying mechanisms behind cellular processes.

In the School of Botany, we use leading edge techniques and instrumentation in conjunction with model plants such as Arabidopsis amd grasses (cereals) to study fundamental processes in plant growth and development.

ARC Centre of Excellence in Plant Cell Walls

The cell wall is of fundamental importance in plant growth and development and of major agricultural and industrial significance. Cloning of genes encoding cell wall synthases, understanding their molecular mode of action & their subcellular organisation are major areas of this work. Molecular biology, biochemistry, plant transformation, microscopy, functional genomics (glycomics, metabolomics & proteomics), & bioinformatics are being employed in this effort.
